Pianist Lara Glanz (Rosalie Thomass) returns to her hometown shortly after her niece Magda goes missing. She takes a job as a teacher and starts searching for the girl on her own. The circumstances surrounding Magda’s disappearance grow ever more mysterious, and other incidents—and residents—of the sleepy village puzzle Lara as well. She soon finds herself confronted by forces that seem not of this world. Lara’s allies are the spiritually gifted Dorothea Freiberg (Sabine Vitua) and the eccentric Professor Rudolf Klein (Peter Franke). At first, none of them realizes what powers they are up against, but it soon becomes clear that Lara herself lies at the heart of the mystery.
