The Billion Dollar Code
The Billion Dollar Code
The Billion Dollar Code is a four-part German Netflix miniseries from 2021 directed by Robert Thalheim. It tells the true story of two Berlin computer pioneers who, in the 1990s, created TerraVision—a visionary 3-D world map—and in 2014 sued Google for patent infringement, claiming that Google Earth is based on their code. Switching between flashbacks to the creative chaos of post-reunification Berlin and the nerve-racking U.S. courtroom battle, the series tackles themes of friendship, idealism, and the power of global tech corporations. The lead roles are played by Mark Waschke, Mišel Matičević, and Leonard Scheicher.
